Lambeth Blog
A place to document my interests, and share updates about my life. Below are some of my sub-blogs (WIP! These will have something eventually I promise!).
About Me:
My name is Mike, and welcome to my site. I'm 26 years old and live in the United States. I am someone who like many people in my generation have grown increasingly disenfranchised with the state of affairs on the internet. For most of my life I have been passionate about technology and for a long time could be considered a tech enthusiast, this site serves as a testimony to what I remember the web being like, a place to share one's thoughts and build community on the web without worrying about the changes quickly corportizing the web.
My Interests:
- Gaming - Modern and Classic, I collect for the GBA, DS, 3DS but also try to engage with modern gaming as well.
- Photography - At a point in time I ran a business as a photographer specializing in concert photography. These days I mostly take pictures for fun, and don't get stuck on trying to make it profitable.
- Movies - I collect movies! Mostly blu-rays, I have a soft spot for the classics. My tastes are a bit basic but I enjoy movies for the sake of enjoying movies. I try to watch one new movie a week.
- Reading - Reading was a big part of my life growing up, and something I lost touch with as I matured into an adult. I am challenging myself this year to reconnect with my love of reading.
- Motorsport - For most of my life I have been a Formula One fan, and have branched out into other series. I keep the closest eye on Formula 1 but passively keep up with World Endurance Championship, NASCAR, World Rally Championship, and spend some of my free time racing on Gran Turismo 7. One of these days I'll commit myself to a project car and get on some real tracks.
- Linux - As mentioned above, for a long time I could be considered a tech enthusiast I have grown to dislike what that term implies and no longer relate to that label. With that being said I think the Linux ecosystem embodies what technology used to be like. In an age where we have the consistent erosion of individual freedom and an ever increasing surveilance state software capable of respecting your freedom as an individual is extremely important, oh and also it's fun!
- Vintage Computing - With my free time I restore old computers, primarily Thinkpads and Macintoshes. At the moment I have the following: Thinkpad X220, Thinkpad T42, Macintosh LC and a Performa 630CD
- Music - I love all genres of music and actively collect records and CDs. My first true love of music belongs to metal but as I got older I branched out into other genres. These days I primarily listen to Jazz, Rap, and still some metal.
- American Football - I didn't fully realize that I enjoyed this sport till I was an adult, I grew up around the sport but never seriously got into it until I was around 20. I pull for the Carolina Panthers, I don't really have much of an opinion about the NCAA but I will watch college games out of enjoyment of the sport.
- Fitness - For most of my life I have been out of shape, in 2022 I committed myself to going to the gym regularly in the interest of better exploring the mind/body connection. From that point on the gym has held some degree of importance in my life and I regularly try to engage in activities that improve my overall physical health regularly.
- Cooking - Cooking is a skill I have only really begun to seriously explore recently, I always enjoyed eating good food (I mean really who doesn't) but when it came to cooking at home I was always a bit lazy. Recently I have been trying to become a better cook to better enable my journey in fitness, and make food for my partner and I to enjoy. She is still a better cook than I am but one's skill on something shouldn't determine if you enjoy it or not!
- Comedy - I love to make people laugh!
Thank you Neocities! Anyone can host a site with little effort! They're fighting to keep the web fun and that is a mission I can get behind.
